FAQs

Are Latex Gloves Reusable?

Latex is stretchy and puncture resistant when first removed from the packet, but over time, they can break down and snap unexpectedly. The initial signs of deterioration are often very difficult to see, as it merely begins as small holes that lead to an eventual break. Latex disposable gloves should be thrown away and replaced every couple of hours to avoid this possibility. They can not be washed either, as the chemicals from the soap and the sudden temperature of the water can cause the gloves to degrade and become more susceptible to breakage.

Are They Used In Hospitals?

Absolutely. This is largely due to the manufacturing costs being very low. Since the gloves are disposable, it is cost-effective for hospitals to use cheap gloves. Although the gloves are cheaply produced, they are very durable and flexible and can provide extensive levels of protection, comfort, and dexterity for the wearer, which is vital in hospital settings. The gloves must be sterile and free of powder to protect patients from potentially harmful microbes, but there is always the risk of latex allergies. Since latex allergies that result in severe dermatitis are becoming increasingly common, hospitals often provide their staff with both latex and nitrile gloves.

What Are The Benefits?

Latex provides greater protection from bio hazardous risks whilst also offering superior elasticity and tensile strength. In addition, latex allows for increased user comfort as well as resistance to cuts and abrasions. As latex gloves are manufactured from a naturally occurring substance, they possess greater biodegradability properties which, as a result, is better for the environment than Vinyl and Nitrile gloves.

What Is The Difference Between Powdered & Powder-Free?

Some latex gloves are coated with a starched powder which can absorb sweat and make it easier to remove from the hand. However, it is important to note that powdered gloves can exacerbate allergic reactions which obviously is not ideal for those who are allergic to latex. So, if you notice redness or irritation, it’s best to look for a powdered free alternative.

What Is Latex?

There are two types of latex, natural and synthetic. Natural latex comes from rubber trees and is harvested from beneath the bark. But synthetic latex, which is far cheaper to make gloves from, is made of petroleum-based chemicals that create dried polymers to be rolled into sheets and cut.
